Places + Experiences

  • Hoċokata Ṫi - Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community’s public exhibit, Mdewakanton: Dwellers of the Spirit Lake, provides visitors with a cultural experience that enhances their knowledge and understanding of the Mdewakanton (pronounced 'med-ah-wah-kah-ton' ) Dakota people and their history.

  • Our Home: Native Minnesota - Native Americans — Dakota, Ojibwe, as well as people from other tribal nations — have dwelled in this area for thousands of years and still live here today. This exhibit at the Minnesota Historical Society in Saint Paul shares their stories, enduring presence, and deep connection to the land.

  • Learning from Place: Bdote - an immersive experience that brings participants to sites of great significance to Dakota people in the Twin Cities.

  • Owamniyomni Interpretive Tours - 60-minute guided site visit of Saint Anthony Falls in Minneapolis. Learn about Dakota lifeways, the significance of the River, and the Mní Sóta Dakota Tribes’ vision for cultural and environmental restoration.

  • Owamni Restaurant - Owamni is a full-service Indigenous restaurant created by The Sioux Chef in 2021 showcasing true North American Indigenous foods and culture.

  • Pipestone National Monument - For over 3,000 years, Indigenous people have quarried the red stone at this site to make pipes used in prayer and ceremony - a tradition that continues to this day and makes this site sacred to many people.
